Lowermost structure of Earth's mantle (2800 km deoth) Published on Sep 13, 2017

Location of the two large antipodal "Large Low Shear Wave Velocity Provinces" (LLSVP) under Africa and the Pacific based on the SMEAN tomography model (Becker and Boschi 2002). These massive features are located around 2800 km depth and are overlain with reconstructed eruption sites of massive "large igneous province" volcanism (green dots), the location of deep hotspots (yellow stars) like Iceland and Hawaii) and kimberlite rocks (black circles) from Torsvik et al. (2010) in Nature. http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v466/n7304/abs/nature09216.html
